Grow Up

Are you still on the milk of the Word?

Hebrews chapter five through six is addressing the church with some what of a reprimand. He is talking about Jesus being the high priest after the order of Melchisedec (that’s another message) then he says this starting in verse 11 “Concerning this we have much to say which is hard to explain, since you have become dull in your [spiritual] hearing and sluggish [even slothful in achieving spiritual insight]. For even though by this time you ought to be teaching others, you actually need someone to teach you over again the very first principles of God’s Word. You have come to need milk, not solid food. For everyone who continues to feed on milk is obviously inexperienced and unskilled in the doctrine of righteousness (of conformity to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action), for he is a mere infant [not able to talk yet]! But solid food is for full-grown men, for those whose senses and mental faculties are trained by practice to discriminate and distinguish between what is morally good and noble and what is evil and contrary either to divine or human law. THEREFORE LET us go on and get past the elementary stage in the teachings and doctrine of Christ (the Messiah), advancing steadily toward the completeness and perfection that belong to spiritual maturity. Let us not again be laying the foundation of repentance and abandonment of dead works (dead formalism) and of the faith [by which you turned] to God, With teachings about purifying, the laying on of hands, the resurrection from the dead, and eternal judgment and punishment. [These are all matters of which you should have been fully aware long, long ago.] If indeed God permits, we will [now] proceed [to advanced teaching]. (Hebrews 5:11-6:3 Amp).

As believers we need to know what authorities we have in Christ. Why? Because its knowing who we are in Christ that is going to make us victorious in life. To know who we are in Christ is to know the Word. Jesus said if you continue in my Word, then are you my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

We need to meditate on the word of God day and night so we can become more like Christ. What you put inside of you is whats going to come out. Because as a man think in his heart so is he. You see if you don’t have the right stuff inside of you, the right stuff won’t come out.

Are you walking in the flesh?
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. (2nd Corinthians 10:3-6 NKJV).

And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. (Romans 13:11-14 NKJV).

Do you walk in jealousy, strife and division?
And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal? (1st Corinthians 3:1-4)

Do you hate?
And this is how we may discern [daily, by experience] that we are coming to know Him [to perceive, recognize, understand, and become better acquainted with Him]: if we keep (bear in mind, observe, practice) His teachings (precepts, commandments). Whoever says, I know Him [I perceive, recognize, understand, and am acquainted with Him] but fails to keep obey His commandments (teachings) is a liar, and the Truth [of the Gospel] is not in him. But he who keeps (treasures) His Word [who bears in mind His precepts, who observes His message in its entirety], truly in him has the love of and for God been perfected (completed, reached maturity). By this we may perceive (know, recognize, and be sure) that we are in Him: Whoever says he abides in Him ought [as a personal debt] to walk and conduct himself in the same way in which He walked and conducted Himself.
Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning; the old commandment is the message which you have heard [the doctrine of salvation through Christ]. Yet I am writing you a new commandment, which is true (is realized) in Him and in you, because the darkness (moral blindness) is clearing away and the true Light (the revelation of God in Christ) is already shining. Whoever says he is in the Light and [yet] hates his brother [Christian, born-again child of God his Father] is in darkness even until now. Whoever loves his brother [believer] abides (lives) in the Light, and in It or in him there is no occasion for stumbling or cause for error or sin.   But he who hates (detests, despises) his brother [in Christ] is in darkness and walking (living) in the dark; he is straying and does not perceive or know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.  (1st John 2:3-11 Amp)

If you are not walking in the revelation of Gods word then you are still on the milk of the Word:
As believers in Christ we need to grow up. If you are being critical about the Word of God and the message of faith you are walking in the flesh. Why?, because the word says whatever is not of faith is sin. Hebrews chapter 5 and 6. state that we need to grow up into the things of God. We need to move on from the basic elements of the gospel. If we don’t we will never mature into the things of God. One of the reasons Jesus spoke in parables is because people including the disciples could not grasp or receive the truths of the kingdom. They were still in the natural that’s why Jesus said to Peter when he ask who do men say that I am. Some say thou art John the Baptist, Elias, Jeremias or some other prophets, then Jesus ask the disciples who do you say that I Am? Simon Peter said thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. What did Jesus say? Blessed art thou Simon Barjona for flesh and blood hath not revealed if unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. Then Jesus continue to talk about building the church on that revelation.  In John 16 verse 7 Jesus is telling the disciples that if he doesn’t leave the comforter will not come.  then in verse 12 Jesus says “I have yet many things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them now.  Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: …” He said they couldn’t bear them now.  The word bear me grasp, they wouldn’t be able to grasp what Jesus would say.  Why? because they didn’t have the Holy Spirit in them.  You see with the Holy Spirit living in us we are now going to have the revelation of the Word of God.

Paul through the Holy Spirit is talking to the church at Corinth starting in verse 11 of chapter 2 “For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ” (1st Corinthians 2:11-16)

Pray for wisdom and revelation
Paul prayed for the church at Ephesus that God would grant them the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ. “Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. (Ephesian 1:15-22 NKJV)
Also in chapter three,  “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen (Ephesian 3:14-21 NKJV).

Conclusion
I don’t have a physical relationship with many of my brothers and sisters in Christ but I do have a spiritual relation with them through faith. The Word says we are joint-heirs with Christ Jesus. We are in eternity together so lets start living like that. We need to stand together with the message of love and faith by teaching the power of the Word of God. This website is all about teaching you how to be a victorious christian. We are about the kingdom of God.
